THE VANISHING ONES tells a story about a tablecloth, that is passed on
from granmother to mother, from mother to daughter and from daughter to
granddaughter. Things sometimes live longer than people. Things as well as men
have their own destiny. A lot of people close to me have sat behind a table covered
with this tablecloth. The cloth is like a connection between people. With these works.
I tie the stories of my loved ones together. Those are stories of love, life, work and
family ties. As the people are vanishing, so do the crafts that were so important at the
time they were living. They are vanishing with them. As the people are vanishing, so
do the crafts that were so important at the time they were living. They are vanishing
with them. I first had an idea to focus my attention on the skills and crafts of my
ancestors, witch I know nothing about. I realized that since nothing about. I realized
that since my time is defferent. I don’t need those crafts. But it wouldn’t do any harm
to remember some of them. With people vanishing, there vanishes also the
knowledge of simple everyday things and doings. Also stories, songs and jokes.
With this work I was trying to write something down and remember.
While compiling the photo material I understood that most important things in life were love and family. Births, funerals and a weddings were always the most important events where make photos.
